The architectural scope of the project is to demonstrate the possibilities of retrofitting and extending old houses (eg. wadas) to respond to new ideas of domesticity that have emerged in the new religious tourism economy, and explore its implications on the spatiality of gendered and caste-segregrations in the house form.
Repurposing of wadas for a new religious tourism economy with each wada accommodating the programmes of living, religiosity, entrepreneurial work practices, hospitality and recreation. The project explores the affordances of the long, linear houses which open out to a common courtyard that allows the hybridity of different programmes.
