Process and Product: Exploring the Role of Medium as a Generator of Architectural Expressiveness.
In architecture, materials, craft culture across different time periods, and the individual style of an architect serve as mediums for space-making. This drawing explores the relationship between the design process and the resultant product. Specifically, the inquiry pertains to the question of mediums as a set of restrictions and rules that influence and direct the outcome of the design to certain extent. The same spatial concepts, explored across different eras with different construction technologies, resulted this spatial outcome. This illustration was originally made using collages of existing caves, temples, and contemporary buildings assembled in Photoshop. It was later converted into a CAD drawing, imagining how the crowded and lively shopping streets of Rockfort in Trichy bleed into this building.
