URECO – A CONTRAST THERAPY CENTRE: RAD CO + LAB

This illustration was created to encapsulate the experience of one traversing through this space; a contrast therapy centre. The drawing was made as a perspective, a tool to immerse the viewer – guiding the eye as one would move through the space itself. The design was approached through the lens of phenomenology in interior spaces.

The experience of the space is best described through this text :

“As I move through the greens on the porch into a moody, dark space, I feel the roughness of the slate stone under my feet. At the entrance I see a visually contrasted reception desk, clad in a smooth and shiny stainless steel sheet. The cold and reflective surface gives me the first inkling of the cold plunge I’m about to experience. Diffused light softens the space through bespoke steel plates that find themselves on the ceiling and walls. The shell of combed plastered surfaces makes my eye wander. I can see soft silhouettes across the checkered glass partition, furthering my curiosity. As I move through the waiting area, I instantly smell caffeine in the air behind the stainless steel coffee counter. As I enter the sanctum, my mind and body are prepared to take the plunge. A cold plunge. A hot sauna. And a beaten steel sheet creating ripples of light with the movement of water. All my senses are alive.”
