DEVELOPEMENT COMING SOON!: KEYUR SHAH, PRASAD PARAB

Once bustling saltpans, the low-lying wetlands of Bhandup and Mulund now sit at the intersection of ecology and Mumbai’s housing ambitions. Reserved for affordable housing under DP 2034 and now being brought into the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, change is coming either way. With development being inevitable, can it coexist with the wetland rather than erase it? This project explores housing, infrastructure and ecology as a hybrid system — where streams become backyard wetlands, urban trails and productive landscapes. Perhaps the challenge is not how to develop “unused” land, but how to make it useful without making it disappear. We made a block model over a detailed context in Rhino, took an A0 print, placed a tracing over it and directly used a micron to detail it out.
