The Undercurrents: Pratyush Shankar Studio

The Undercurrents
Drawing is a powerful medium to communicate. Imaginary-utopian ideas when translated to a visual medium often tend to examine and critique the status quo. This drawing was made as a part of a studio series carried out during the lockdown titled ‘At the Edge of Time’. The intension was to create alternate imaginations of a not-so-distant future. In a way, these imaginations are a critical commentary of the contemporary world.

The Undercurrents – In the nuclear age, fallout cities are being constructed everywhere. These are complex, climatically controlled environments built under the ground to protect the inhabitants from radioactive debris and radiation. The future is re-imagined by inward-looking built spaces that are closed off from the outside world but still functions perfectly.
