Section and montage collage
17×12 cm
We rendered this section for an art center in Suncheon after studying the paintings of traditional Korean temples and palaces. We drew inspiration from the layered technique used by traditional Korean painters while making this section, to convey a deep spatial quality and enhance the mountains surrounding the city. This section communicates interconnectedness between layers of the project—between a park on the ground level, and a ‘hidden cloister’ that’s sunken underground, which connects to the river. Through it, we wanted to communicate the age-old linkage between the river, courtyard and Korean temple, while also conveying a sense of embeddedness in the earth.
