Pond or ‘kulam’ is attached to the nostalgia and reminiscence of Keralites of mostly all generations before the millennials and henceforth. Through this project, it is being rebounded with an additional element – a public gathering space. The project is an ongoing public project in the deep interiors of the Kannur district. The project revolves around a public pond and also beholds a public gathering space adjacent to the pond benefitting the local population. The community was actively encouraged to participate in the different stages of the project to make the building “public” in all its true essence. This is actively done in the landscaping adjacent to the pond, the people actively participated in creating a local ecosystem in the pond with both their knowledge and hands. The project envisions to be a natural system comprising all the elements of an environment and society in its native true blissful form.
