‘The Old City’ carousel reflects the architectural inspirations we have gathered over time, drawing from Surat’s old city, where homes and streets are inseparable. Over seven months, we meticulously crafted facades, balconies, and jharokhas to recreate this rotating, unique vertical street.

The visuals were designed to capture the essence of togetherness, reflecting the vibrant life of the street. Scenes like vegetable vendors handling daily orders, pastiwallas calling out for discarded papers, and children playing all contribute to the dynamic, diverse energy of everyday street life.

The creation process involved extensive carpentry and lathe work in the studio, from prototyping movements to capture street moments to finalising intricate carvings.

As these structures fade, the project honours the foundations of our lineage, celebrating the interconnectedness of the past with our present.
