The ‘Arctic Onion’ in Reykjavik, Iceland, is a speculative housing concept for extreme Arctic conditions. It aims to be a model for regenerative, communal living that nurtures all life. The drawing shows the sequence of “dressing” the onion in layers of temperature, clothing and life :
- A public bathhouse (the Core),
- private sleeping shelves using body heat for warmth,
- insulated communal cluster shelves,
- a vertical street (the ramp) fostering human and non-human interactions,
- a wind jacket studded with turbines for energy collection and weather protection.
