Terraces House: The Artloft

Designed for a compact site of 40′ x 40′, the exploration focuses on inducing life outdoors by bringing greenery to urban spaces.

This section, along the N-S axis, showcases the stepped terrace garden, which becomes a visual extension of the park that is in front of the plot. It provides views of the sky and filtered sunlight through the windows, creating a dappled pattern of light and shadow indoors. The plants and greenery are visible through the windows from the double-height dining area, the study, and the kids’ room. The family enjoys the views of the flowers and fruits, as well as the changing colours of foliage throughout the seasons. It is also an invitation to a variety of birds, insects, and pollinators, and the family to engage with nature. The soil on the roof acts as natural thermal insulation, and the transpiration of the plants contributes to the thermal environment of the house.
