Poetics of Dwelling: MAITRI SHAH

These drawings are part of the research CRP thesis with Hunnarshala – Sandeep Virmani. The aim of the thesis was to understand the notion of dwelling and how it fulfils tangible and intangible needs and the manifestation of the Baiga tribe in the Maikal hills. The topic of the thesis is, Poetics of dwelling, it sheds light on how each space is a unique manifestation, shaped by the influence of the underlying poetics. Just as a poet carefully chooses words to evoke emotions, create imagery, and convey deeper layers of meaning, every space also possesses its own unique poetics that shape its form and essence. Our subjective apparatus plays a significant role in ordering the manifold of our experiences, establishing certain relations between them. These relations, in turn, are articulated through a series of manifestations, human aspiration and tangible intangible needs. Our perceptions, experiences, and beliefs influence the way we interpret and engage with a space. It is through this subjective lens that the poetics of dwelling come alive. In contemplating the poetics, we discover that spaces extend beyond their physical boundaries. They become vessels through which ideas, emotions, and narratives find expression. The poetics of dwelling offer us a profound perspective, an invitation to perceive space not merely as a physical construct, but as a realm where narratives unfold and meaning resides.
