Living Blueprint | The D’souza Way: DORO

This drawing was created to understand the D’souza family’s lifestyle and daily routines before beginning the design of their weekend home in Kamshet, Maharashtra. The D’souzas – father Cyprian, mother Mary, and their daughter Hritodaya – are at the core of this project, which includes both their home, and Hritodaya’s pottery studio.

The family’s specific daily activities – Cyprian in the kitchen, often cooking or playing with the dogs in the backyard; Mary relaxing in her chair or playing the piano; and the dining table as the central space for conversation, work, and meals – were key to understanding how the home functions. These insights were essential in shaping the design.

To capture these nuances, the drawing was created using watercolours, which allowed for rich, layered expressions of the spaces and their connection to daily life. Certain areas of the plan were enlarged to add depth, highlighting elements such as food, weather, and the routines that define the household. These layers of life give a more immersive perspective of the spaces that are central to the family’s lifestyle and helped inform the design of their future home.
