Jawai’s rolling granite hills are geologically distinct within the Aravalli range. These sketches record a small part of such majestic structural evolution of the landscape and the spatial conditions that emerge from it. The cracks and fractures of these hills have created a unique relationship with the landscapes. On a recent visit, the artist’s eyes were fixated on the Beutea monosperma (Palash) blooming through the shallow soils accumulated between these cracks of granite. The same structural features also provide shelter at larger scales to the fauna of this region. Such conditions leave an everlasting impression of a place, and these sketches are an attempt to document the relationships between geology, ecology, and habitation.
