Forging meaning from the Canvas of the City: Disha Dilip

This illustration was made as part of the design process for architectural thesis titled “Theatre of Resistance”. The thesis focused on exploring ways by which citizens of a place can stay aware, express and engage in meaningful interactions regarding the social and political situations that they are faced with. Through detailed studies into the contemporary methods by which this can be achieved, the program evolved into a concoction of the seemingly unrelated ideas of journalism, protest and performative arts like comedy. This illustration emerged from the need to diagrammatically represent how these programs could exist together and make sense in a real urban context. It attempts to draw axes from neighbouring institutions of the site and use them as guides for program ordering. This illustration became a generative tool to then create spaces and intertwine it with architectural elements that reflect the essence of this portrayal.
